Water Requirements

Unlike most aquarium fish, marbled crayfish really aren't picky about water.

Hardness and pH

In our experience, most tap water in the USA is hard water, more so the further south you go — and that's just fine for this species. They're not picky about pH either; straight tap water works well. "Conditioning" water for days the way you might for a tropical fishtank is a complete waste of time here.

Temperature

Marbled crays seem to prefer things cooler than tropical — 72–76°F suits them better than the 78–80°F typical of a tropical fish tank. Our own experiments show they can survive extreme temperatures on both ends, hot and cold, though they won't reproduce while conditions are that extreme.
